Octomore 7.1 Scottish Barley is a 5yo produced from barley harvested from mainland Scotland, peated to 208ppm and matured exclusively in American oak. The Octomore expressions are considered the peatiest/smokiest whiskies available, and although incredibly intense still surprisingly maintain a sense of poise and elegance. Bottled at a cask strength of 59.5%.
Nose: Sea spray and caramel, lemon balm and pipe tobacco with peat smoke, peaches and pear syrup.
Palate: Satin soft but devilishly warming. The smoke and soft fruits are followed by vanilla, honey and citrus along with smoked mussels and crème brûlée.
Finish: As the oak sweetness fades the salt returns while the gentle peat smoke outlasts all else.
